Specificity :
Binds Mesothelin, a 40kD GPI-anchored cell surface glycoprotein. Mesothelin is a differentiation antigen present on normal mesothelial cells and overexpressed in several human tumors, including mesothelioma; ovarian and pancreatic adenocarcinoma. Mesothelin is attached to the cell membrane by a glycosylphosphatidyl inositol linkage and a 31-kD shed fragment named megakaryocyte-potentiating factor (MPF). The biological function of mesothelin is not known. The K1 antibody has been used to differentiate between epithelial malignant mesothelioma and lung adenocarcinomas by immunohistology.
