Recognizes human Transcription factor Sp1 (Sp1), also known as TSFP1. Sp1 is a 785 amino acid, ~95kD member of the Sp1 C2H2-type zinc-finger protein family. containing 3 motifs. Sp1 is a transcription regulator, involved in the regulation of multiple genes. Sp1 has been implicated in a range of cellular processes including cell cycle regulation, maintenance of gene activation during development, regulation of nucleic acid metabolism and preservation of chromatin structure at gene loci. The transcription factor Sp1 binds to GC-rich motifs within DNA, and has been shown to interact with other tissue-specific transcription factors to modulate the activities of a variety of promoters. Sp1 is ubiquitously expressed in cell nuclei, although the level of expression may vary between cell types.
