Description :
FOXO3A belongs to the forkhead family of transcription factors which is characterized by a distinct forkhead domain. FOXO3A is an embryonic transcriptional regulator involved in erythropoiesis and plays an important role in the cell cycle of megakaryocytic cells. It also has a critical role in regulation of proliferation, control of oxidative stress and triggers apoptosis by inducing the expression of genes such as the Fas ligand gene TNFSF6. It is also known to regulate cardiac myocyte size downstream of AKT signaling. FOXO3A promotes DNA repair under low stress conditions and a program of cell death under higher level of stress thus protecting quiescent cells from oxidative stress.
