Description :
The SCLY gene encodes selenocysteine lyase, an enzyme involved in selenium metabolism, which plays a critical role in the recycling of selenocysteine from selenoproteins. SCLY catalyzes the conversion of selenocysteine into alanine, releasing selenium for reuse in the biosynthesis of new selenoproteins.
