Description :
MHC Class II (I-Ak) serves as a critical component of the immune system, facilitating the recognition and response to extracellular pathogens and foreign substances. Its primary role is to present peptides derived from extracellular proteins to T cells for immune recognition. MHC Class II (I-Ak) is composed of an alpha and beta chain, both of which contribute to the peptide-binding groove. The location of MHC Class II (I-Ak) is restricted to antigen-presenting cells, such as dendritic cells, macrophages, and B cells. These cells are responsible for capturing and processing antigens from the extracellular environment. MHC Class II (I-Ak) consists of an extracellular domain, a transmembrane domain, and a cytoplasmic tail. The extracellular domain is responsible for interacting with the antigenic peptides, while the transmembrane domain anchors the MHC Class II molecule to the cell membrane. The cytoplasmic tail plays a role in intracellular signaling events.
HLA and MHC antibodies play a significant role in Immunopeptidomics, facilitating the identification and characterization of neoantigens through high-performance liquid chromatography coupled to tandem Mass Spectrometry.
