Background :

PHF6, plant homeodomain (PHD) finger protein 6, encodes a protein with two PHD-type zinc finger domains that localizes to the nucleolus. It is thought to play role in transcription regulation. Defects in this gene that affect the coding region or the splicing of the transcript have been linked to Borjeson-Forssman-Lehmann syndrome (BFLS), a rare X-linked obesity syndrome characterized by mental retardation, truncal obesity, distinct facial features, hypogonadism, tapered fingers and short toes. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene due to alternative splicing.
