Background :
Plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1) is the principal inhibitor of urokinase plasminogen activator (uPA) and tissue plasminogen activator (tPA). It belongs to the serpin (serine protease inhibitor) group of proteins. Elevated levels of PAI-1 are associated with poor prognosis in many types of cancer.
