Background :
SIRT5 is the only human class III sirtuin and as such is the closest homolog to bacterial (e.g. E. coli CobB) and archaeal sirtuins. SIRT5 is an imported mitochondrial protein with a calculated precursor molecular weight of 34kDa. In various human, rat, mouse and bovine cells and tissues, the major reactive band migrates with an apparent molecular weight of ~29kDa. This presumably reflects removal of an N-terminal transit sequence due to mitochondrial import and processing. No cross-reactivity observed with recombinant human sirtuins SIRT1, SIRT2 or SIRT3.
