Neurogranin is one of the most prominent substrates for protein kinase C (PKC) in the mammalian brain, where it is predominantly located in post-synaptic dendrites in the forebrain. It is expressed early in embryonic development (E13/E15 in mouse brain) and declines with advancing age. Neurogranin forms complexes with calmodulin and plays a key role in calcium homeostasis.
