Background :

The LIM kinases 1 and 2 (LIMK1 and LIMK2) are activated downstream of the Rho-ROCK, Rac-PAK, and Cdc42-MRCK pathways, thereby acting as network nodes in the signaling pathways that regulate the actin cytoskeleton. LIMK is required for matrix remodeling activities for path generation by leading cells in collective invasion. LIMK1 phosphorylates and inactivates the actin binding/depolymerizing factor cofilin, thereby stabilizing the actin cytoskeleton.
