Background :
Lymphotoxin-α (LTα, TNF-β) is a 25 kDa type II soluble protein belonging to the TNF family. It is expressed as a trimer (LTα3), or with lymphotoxin-β (LTα1β2 or LTα2β1). LTα3 interacts with 3 different members of the TNF-receptor superfamily: HVEM (Prod. No. ALX-522-017), TNF-R1 (Prod. No. ALX-522-013) and TNF-R2 (Prod. No. ALX-522-014). LTα3 is expressed by activated T and B lymphocytes and is a pro-apoptotic cytokine, a pluripotent mediator of inflammtory and immune defense mechanisms, and moreover it plays an important role in regulating the generation of the peripheral lymphoid system. Historical data has shown that LTα3 kills human TNF-R1 positive cells.
