Background :

HVEM (TR2, ATAR, HVEA) is a 36 kDa type I transmembrane protein belonging to the TNF receptor family. HVEM contains 3 cysteine-rich repeats in the extracellular portion which is typical of TNFR family members. HVEM mediates Herpes Simplex Virus-1 infection of T cells. Ligation of HVEM by its cellular trimeric ligand LIGHT (Prod. No. ALX-522-018) induces recruitment to the cytoplasmic domain of the signaling molecules TRAF2 and 5. Activation in vitro of HVEM leads to induction of nuclear factors NFκB and AP-1. The outcome of HVEM activation on T cells is still controversial. A second ligand for HVEM is soluble LTalpha. Historical data has shown the inhibition of LIGHT-mediated effects, such as the cytotoxic effect on HT29 target cells. Prevents Herpes Simplex Virus-1 infection of T-cells.
