Background :

S100 proteins belong to the family of calcium binding proteins such as Calmodulin and Troponin C. Members of the S100 protein family are multifunctional proteins implicated in the regulation of a variety of cellular activities and have both intracellular and extracellular activities. S100 proteins have no enzymatic activity and interact with several effector proteins within cells to regulate enzyme activities, dynamics of cytoskeleton constituents, cell growth and differentiation and Ca2+ homeostasis. S100 alpha is composed of an alpha and beta chain whereas S100 beta is composed of two beta chains. S100 protein is also expressed in antigen presenting cells such as Langerhans cells in skin and interdigitating reticulum cells in the paracortex of lymph nodes.

Buffer :

Liquid. In 50mM TRIS-Acetate, pH 7.5, containing 1mM EDTA and 20% glycerol.

Uses :

Western blot control.
