PGD2 is a principal metabolite of arachidonic acid, catalyzed by PGD synthases primarily in hematopoietic and neural cells. Although PGD2 is traditionally considered a pro-inflammatory mediator, the actions of PGD2 and its metabolites have been shown to exert concentration-dependent pro- and anti-inflammatory effects on leukocyte development, function, and apoptosis.
