Background :

A-kinase anchor protein 9 (AKAP-9) is a multi-functional PKA anchoring protein belonging to the AKAP family of proteins, known for their ability to bind the PKA regulatory subunit. AKAP-9 is comprised of a PPI-binding site, an RII-binding site, two LZ motifs, and seven LIZ motifs. Specifically, AKAP-9 binds to PKA type II regulatory subunits. It serves as a scaffolding protein by collecting various phosphatases and kinases to the centrosome and the Golgi apparatus. AKAP-9 is potentially a required component for upkeep of the integrity of Golgi apparatus. Expression is high in gastric parietal cells. A splice variant of AKAP-9, Yotiao, is the cause of long-QT syndrome and has been associated with adenylyl cyclases of the brain and heart.
