Background :

Contactin-associated protein-like 2 (caspr2) is also called cell recognition molecule Caspr2, and CNTNAP2. Caspr2 may play a role in forming distinct domains critical for conduction of nerve impulses in myelinated nerve fibers, and appears to demarcate the juxtaparanodal region of axo-glial junctions. Caspr2 defects can cause cortical dysplasia-focal epilepsy syndrome (CDFES), and genetic Caspr2 variations can alter susceptibility to autism type 15 (AUTS15).
