Background :

Tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase type 5 (TR-AP), also known as Tartrate-resistant acid ATPase (TrATPase) or Type 5 acid phosphatase, and encoded by the gene name ACP5, plays an important role in osteopontin/bone sialoprotein dephosphorylation. Expression of APC5 seems to increase in certain pathological states such as Gaucher and Hodgkin diseases, the hairy cell, the B-cell, and the T-cell leukemias.
