Background :

BCAP31 (B-cell receptor-associated protein 31) is more commonly known as BAP31. BCAP31 is an integral protein of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and controls the export of other integral proteins to the secretion pathways and can manipulate the cell surface. BCAP31 is also associated with shaping cell sensitivity to ER stress. BCAP31 has two caspase cleavage sites that can be used in certain apoptotic pathways, and BCAP31 binds with Fis1 to create a bridge from the ER to the mitochondria for apoptosis signaling. BCAP31 is also linked to the E5 proteins of the human papilloma virus and may play a role in the viruses’ life cycle.
