Background :

c-Kit is a 145 kDa glycosylated transmembrane protein whose extracellular domain contains Ig-like domains that bind c-Kit ligand (KL; stem cell factor) to initiate signaling that programs mast cell proliferation, differentiation, migration, and survival.

Specificity :

Recognizes c-Kit (CD117, Steel factor receptor, and stem cell factor receptor), a transmembrane receptor tyrosine kinase expressed by hematopoietic progenitor cell subsets and mast cells. The interaction of c-Kit and its ligand is required for normal hematopoiesis, mast cell differentiation, melanogenesis, and gametogenesis. Mutations in KIT are associated with gastrointestinal stromal tumors, mast cell disease, acute myelogenous leukemia, and piebaldism.
