Background :

Whamm (WASP homolog associated with actin, membranes, and microtubules) is a mammalian nucleation-promoting factor that controls many cellular components through the Arp2/3 complex. Whamm seems also to be an essential regulator of membrane dynamics at the intersection of the actin and microtubule cytoskeletons. Whamm organizes the cytoskeleton and has a part to play in the structure and effectiveness of the Golgi complex. Whamm and other similar members of the Wiskott-Aldrich Syndrome family of proteins share an actin/Arp2/3-interactin WCA site that has not been seen in this type of protein before.
