Background :

Leucine-rich repeat transmembrane neuronal protein 1 (LRRTM1) is a multidomain postsynaptic protein. It contains nine leucine-rich repeats, one LRRCT domain, and 1 LRRNT domain. The Leucine-rich repeat transmembrane neuronal proteins bind to presynaptic neurexins and promote cell adhesion. The Leucine-rich repeat transmembrane neuronal protein 1 is predominantly expressed in the forebrain and may play a role in differentiation and connectivity processes during the development of this region. The corresponding gene is imprinted in humans, and has been linked to neurodevelopmental disorders, such as schizophrenia. Mice deficient in LRRTM1 show cognitive deficits in various behavioral paradigms.
