Background :

Homeobox protein Hox-D10 (HOX-D10) is a nuclear, sequence-specific transcription factor belonging to the Abd-B homeobox family of master regulators containing a characteristic homeobox DNA-binding domain. HOX-D10 expression along the anterior-posterior axis of cells provides specific, positional identities for the purpose of developmental regulation. It may have a role in the phenotype maintenance or promotion in epithelial cells. Studies have shown sustained overexpression of HOX-D10 to inhibit angiogenesis and cell migration, suggesting a potential role in tumor suppression. High expression is observed within adult urogenital tract tissue and also in developing limb buds. Mutations in HOX-D10 are causal to congenital vertical talus (CVT).
