Background :

Leukocyte immunoglobulin-like receptor 3 is a member of the LILR family which includes stimulatory cell-surface immunoregulatory receptors and dampening cell-surface receptors. It associates with MHC class I molecules on the cell surface to regulate osteoclast formation. This protein could be a novel target to control inflammatory arthritis and certain skeletal system disorders. Leukocyte immunoglobulin-like receptor 3 has been found to be upregulated on the cell surface in HIV-1 patients called elite controllers. These patients maintain undetectable levels of HIV-1 without any antiretroviral treatment.
