The UBX proteins bind ubiquitin conjugates as well as interact with the E3 ubiquitin ligases. UBXD7 (UBX domain containing 7), also known as ABXN7, is a binds multiple ubiquitin ligases. UBXD7 links p97, an ATP-dependent chaperone involved in endoplasmic reticulum-associated degradation, to the ubiquitin ligase CUL2/VHL and its substrate hypoxia-inducible factor 1α (HIF1α).
