Background :

Human Tumor Necrosis Factor alpha (TNF-alpha, cachectin) is a cytokine, produced by variety of cell types, that is involved in mediation of the inflammatory response, resistance to infection, and resistance to tumor growth. Human and mouse TNF-alpha are approximately 79% homologous at the amino acid level and exhibit cross-species reactivity. This antibody recognizes both recombinant and natural human TNF-alpha and exhibits some (~30%) cross-reactivity with mouse TNF-alpha. It exhibits only minor (1%) cross-reactivity with human TNF-beta (lymphotoxin).
