Background :

Amyloid precursor protein (APP) is a type I integral membrane protein with a large N-terminal extracellular domain, a single transmembrane domain, and a short cytoplasmic tail. APP is cleaved by alpha-secretase to generate sAPPalpha and CTFalpha, which is the C-terminal membrane, associated product of alpha-secretase cleavage. alpha-secretase cleaves in the Abeta domain. beta-secretase cleavage of APP at the N-terminal end of the Abeta sequence results in sAPPbeta and CTFbeta. Both CTFalpha and CTFbeta are cleaved at the C-terminal end of the Abeta transmembrane domain to generate CTFɣ. The antibody (171610) detects CTFɣ fragment, which migrates at about 6 kDa on SDS-PAGE gels.
