Background :

The hnRNPs are RNA binding proteins that complex with heterogeneous nuclear RNA (hnRNA) and associate with pre-mRNAs in the nucleus. These complexes are associated with pre-mRNA processing and other aspects of mRNA metabolism and transport. Family members hnRNPJ and hnRNP K act as substrates for pre-mRNA processing prior to translation in the cytoplasm. They represent one of the major subsets of poly(C)-binding proteins (PCBPs) most commonly found in mammalian cells.
