Anti-IL-6R-alpha Antibody, clone 1C2

Human
Background :
The interleukin-6 receptor (IL-6R) is thought to be made up of two subunits: IL-6R-alpha and gp130. IL-6R-alpha is ligand specific while signal transduction is regulated by gp130. IL-6R is commonly membrane bound but can also be found in a soluble form. It has been found to be inactivated by Porphyromonas gingivalis during infection, most possibly by damaging or inactivating the gp130 subunit of the receptor. IL-6R expression has been linked to aggressiveness of papillary thyroid cancers and medullary thyroid cancers and has also been linked to certain osteoarticular diseases. Recent data has found an association between a certain IL-6R polymorphism and susceptibility to respiratory infections.
