MW = 7.2 kDa.Spectrin alpha chain, brain is a protein that in humans is encoded by the SPTAN1 gene.The spectrins are a family of widely-distributed cytoskeletal proteins which are involved in actin crosslinking. The protein enocoded by this gene is an spectrin alpha-chain which heterodimerizes with tissue-specific beta-chains.
