Gene Full Name :
Adiponectin receptor protein 1
Synonyms :
Adiponectin receptor protein 1; Progestin and adipoQ receptor family member I; ADIPOR1; PAQR1 , TESBP1A; CGI-45;
Protein Name :
Adiponectin receptor protein 1
Molecular Weight :
42616 MW
Protein Function :
Receptor for ADIPOQ, an essential hormone secreted by adipocytes that regulates glucose and lipid metabolism (PubMed:25855295, PubMed:12802337). Required for normal glucose and fat homeostasis and for maintaining a normal body weight. ADIPOQ-binding activates a signaling cascade that leads to increased AMPK activity, and ultimately to increased fatty acid oxidation, increased glucose uptake and decreased gluconeogenesis. Has high affinity for globular adiponectin and low affinity for full-length adiponectin (By similarity).
Subcellular Localization :
Cell membrane ; Multi-pass membrane protein. Localized to the cell membrane and intracellular organelles.
Tissue Specificity :
Widely expressed (PubMed:16044242). Highly expressed in heart and skeletal muscle (PubMed:12802337). Expressed at intermediate level in brain, spleen, kidney, liver, placenta, lung and peripheral blood leukocytes (PubMed:12802337). Weakly expressed in colon, thymus and small intestine (PubMed:12802337).
Recommended Detection Systems :
Boster recommends Enhanced Chemiluminescent Kit with anti-Rabbit IgG (EK1002) for Western blot, and HRP Conjugated anti-Rabbit IgG Super Vision Assay Kit (SV0002-1) for ICC.
Sequence Similarities :
Belongs to the ADIPOR family.
Background :
ADIPOR1 is known as Adiponectin receptor protein 1. This gene encodes a protein which acts as a receptor for adiponectin, a hormone secreted by adipocytes which regulates fatty acid catabolism and glucose levels. Binding of adiponectin to the encoded protein results in activation of an AMP-activated kinase signaling pathway which affects levels of fatty acid oxidation and insulin sensitivity. A pseudogene of this gene is located on chromosome 14. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants have been found for this gene.
