Gene Full Name :
Fibronectin
Synonyms :
Fibronectin; FN; Anastellin; Fn1;
Protein Name :
Fibronectin
Molecular Weight :
272511 MW
Protein Function :
Fibronectins bind cell surfaces and various compounds including collagen, fibrin, heparin, DNA, and actin. Fibronectins are involved in cell adhesion, cell motility, opsonization, wound healing, and maintenance of cell shape. Involved in osteoblast compaction through the fibronectin fibrillogenesis cell-mediated matrix assembly process, essential for osteoblast mineralization. Participates in the regulation of type I collagen deposition by osteoblasts (By similarity).
Subcellular Localization :
Secreted, extracellular space, extracellular matrix.
Tissue Specificity :
Plasma FN (soluble dimeric form) is secreted by hepatocytes. Cellular FN (dimeric or cross-linked multimeric forms), made by fibroblasts, epithelial and other cell types, is deposited as fibrils in the extracellular matrix.
Recommended Detection Systems :
Boster recommends Enhanced Chemiluminescent Kit with anti-Mouse IgG (EK1001) for Western blot, and HRP Conjugated anti-Mouse IgG Super Vision Assay Kit (SV0001-1) for IHC(P), IHC(F) and ICC.
Sequence Similarities :
Contains 12 fibronectin type-I domains.
Background :
Fibronectin, a glycoprotein present in a soluble dimeric form in plasma, and in a dimeric or multimeric form at the cell surface and in extracellular matrix. Fibronectin is involved in cell adhesion and migration processes including embryogenesis, wound healing, blood coagulation, host defense, and metastasis. Cellular fibronectin is a 550KDa glycoprotein existing as two heterodimers, different from plasma fibronectin in the presence of additional polypeptide segments and in altering morphology of transformed cells and hemaglutination.
