Background :
Human MBL-2 belongs to the collectins in the C-type lectin superfamily. This protein is a calcium-dependent lectin that is involved in natural immune defense that binds mannose, fucose, and N-acetylglucosamine on different microorganisms and activates the lectin complement pathway. This protein can bind to late apoptotic cells and possibly DNA.
