Background :

Tissues which are stimulated by oestrogens require receptors for these steroid hormones. Oestrogen receptor alpha (ESR1) is mainly located in the nuclei of the responsive tissues, but to a minor extent also in the cytoplasm. Oestrogen responsive tissues are especially epithelial cells of the myometrium of the uterus and normal and hyperblastic epithelial cells of the breast glands.
