Mouse, human
Background :
The seco-steroid hormone 1,25-Dihydroxyvitamin D3 plays a vital role in Calcium metabolism, in tissue differentiation and during the growth of bone. The biosynthesis of the hormone is catalysed by a mitochondrial P450-enzyme, 25-Hydroxy-Vitamin D3 1-alpha-Hydroxylase. Although the enzyme has been detected in different tissues, the main site of Vitamin D3 synthesis is the kidney.
