Background :
Platelet Endothelial Cell Adhesion Molecule 1 (PECAM-1) or CD31 belongs to a group of transmembrane glycoproteins of the immunoglobulin super-family of adhesion molecules. It is exprimed predominantly by megakaryocytes, platelets, granulocytes, B-cell precursors and endothelial cells. It plays an important role in adhesion of leucocytes to blood vessel endothelia and for the cell migration through the vessel walls.
