Human
Background :
Human alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) is synthesized in the embryonic yolk sac and during adult life in the liver. During childhood and youth only very low concentrations are found in blood, but it is found in high quantities in maternal and fetal blood during pregnancy. Exceptionally high concentrations have been found in different failures of fetal development. Tissue transformation as it occurs in primary hepatocarcinoma is accompanied by increased synthesis of alpha-fetoprotein, so that it can be used as an immunohistochemical marker of this disease.

Purified Alpha-Fetoprotein from umbilical cord blood
Specificity :
Human Alpha-Fetoprotein (no cross-reactivity with HSA, CEA, Ferritin, HCG, and PSA)
