Human interleukin-36 receptor antagonist(IL-36Ra), also known as Interleukin-1 receptor antagonist homolog 1, interleukin-1 family member 5, IL-1F5, Interleukin-1 delta, IL-1 delta (FIL-1delta), Interleukin-1-like protein 1, IL-1-related protein 3, IL-1RP3 and IL-1 HY1, is a secreted protein which belongs to the interleukin 1 cytokine family(IL-1 family). IL1F5/IL1RP3 is predominantly expressed in keratinocytes but not in fibroblasts, endothelial cells or melanocytes. IL1F5/IL1RP3 is also detected in the spleen, brain leukocyte and macrophage cell types. Increased in lesional psoriasis skin. IL1F5/IL1RP3 is a highly and a specific antagonist of the IL-1 receptor-related protein 2-mediated response to interleukin 1 family member 9 (IL1F9). Dysregulated expression of novel agonistic and antagonistic IL-1 family member ligands can promote cutaneous inflammation, revealing potential novel targets for the treatment of inflammatory skin disorders. Human and mouse IL-1F5 share 90% a.a. sequence identity.
