Mab 1C7 specifically recognizes cytokeratin 13 (54 kD polypeptide) present in non-cornifying squamous epithelia and in transitional epithelium of the bladder. Epidermal cell culture studies have shown that cytokeratin 13 expression is involved in either the number or the strength of desmosomal contacts between supra basal cells of stratified quamous epithelia.
