Histone H2A is one of the core components of the nucleosome, the basic building block of chromatin. Nucleosomes consist of approximately 146 bp of DNA wrapped around a histone octamer composed of pairs of each of the four core histones (Histone H2A, Histone H2B, Histone H3, and Histone H4).
