Background :

AP-2 (activator protein 2 or AP2) transcription factors activate transcription and regulate gene expression during embryogenesis. There are four different isoforms of AP-2 (AP-2M-NM-1, AP-2M-NM-2, AP-2M-NM-3 and AP-2M-NM-4). The family members share a common structure in which the N-terminal region is involved with transcriptional activation and the C-terminal region is involved in DNA binding.
