Background :

Cenexin, also known as Outer dense fiber protein 2 (ODF2) is a filamentous structure located on the outside of the axoneme in the midpart of the mammalian sperm tail, where it influences sperm motility. It also functions as a general scaffold protein that associates with distal and subdistal appendages of mother centrioles. As a critical component of the centrosomal matrix, it is required for the localization of certain proteins, like Plk1, which are necessary for normal mitosis.
